"SINGAPORE : After four days of queueing, the one and only vacancy left for a Primary One place at Tanjong Katong Primary School went to a Korean child.
But the child's mother was not first in line; she was actually in third spot.
She got the sole place because the two parents in front of her, who are also Koreans, decided to send their children to an international school instead.
Tanjong Katong Primary is the only school to witness such a queue because of its good reputation among the expatriate community.
There are about 100 Korean pupils who are among the 39 nationalities at the school.
The large foreign intake came about because when the school opened seven years ago, local parents gave it a miss, creating many vacancies that were filled by foreign students. - CNA/ms"
